I’ve Got You Covered

February 19, 2010

Some of my favourite covers are the ones that I actually prefer to the original. It’s not that I don’t like the original but I like how artists have interpreted them with their own personal style (I don’t believe it’s about making it ‘better‘) !

Shiina Ringo covers Edith Piaf

I love this jazzy version of Piaf’s Autumn Leaves. Her husky voice really compliments the jazz piano and the electric part half way through really tops it off ! One thing this song definitely is not is boring ! Listen.

Martin Luther McCoy covers The Beatles

I absolutely adore this cover. McCoy has such a soulful voice which really suits this song’s slower tempo. It might be sinful but I prefer it to the original ! ;-O I also loved his duets with Dana Fuchs from the Across the Universe soundtrack. Listen.

Little Birdy covers Split Enz

This punked up version is very much to my liking. I prefer her voice and the upbeat tempo. Listen.

Big Heavy Stuff covers Bjork

It’s hard to imagine anyone being able to pull of any of Bjork’s highly unique, eclectic songs but I listened to this cover and it ain’t too bad. Listen.
